World Woods Golf Club - Brooksville, Florida

Course Review: World Woods Golf Club – Brooksville, Florida

Located just over 50 miles north of Tampa, the World Woods Golf Club is one of the most scenic golf destinations in the Sunshine State and Florida’s only 5-star rated public course. In this week’s course review we take a look around this highly ranked golf facility, learning more about its design and what’s on offer for visiting golfers.

The 36-hole golf facility at World Woods is made up of two courses – Pine Barrens and Rolling Oaks. These courses are named in honour of two tree species that populate the Brooksville area, providing a serene woodland setting with great year-round weather that should appeal to any golfer.

Both courses were designed by renowned golf architect Tom Fazio, and make ample use of the local vegetation to create a unique golfing experience. Some players have described a round of golf on these two courses as “taking a walk in the woods”.

Pine Barrens
Carved out of a dense pine forest, the Pine Barrens course is rustic and appealing to the eye. Golfers can expect forgiving wide fairways flanked by waste bunkers – this makes plenty of allowances for club choice and hitting distance, provided that your tee shots are accurate.

With two lakes at the third and fifteenth holes respectively, Pine Barrens also includes its fair share of water hazard shots.

Rolling Oaks
Just a few yards from Pine Barrens, the terrain changes dramatically – large oak trees and Spanish moss set the scene for a round of golf at Rolling Oaks, which is popular for its lush terrain and rolling fairways.

The carpet of dark green that covers much of this course stands out against its white bunkers, which are tricky and best avoided by players who plan to make par or better.

World Woods is a public golf facility with luxury accommodation options, but tee times should be booked well in advance. For more information, please visit the club’s
