Tiger Woods Ready To Go

Tiger Woods is fit and well again and “ready to go” – and that’s from the man himself.

The 39-year-old, long-time former World No 1 and 14-time major winner has announced that he will make his 2015 debut on January 29 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

This almost certainly because he  always enjoys strong support at the Arizona course where it is played – the TPC Scottsdale which is reputed to be the noisiest and most raucous course on the US PGA Tour

He will also play in the Farmers Insurance Open on what might be his favourite course, Torrey Pines South, a week later.

The famed San Diego cliff-top course is where he won his last Major in 2008.

First news on his return came on Twitter where he announced: “Starting my year off at Phoenix & Torrey back-to-back weeks. I’m ready to go. Should be a lot of fun.”

Later he was reported to have said on his website: “It will be great to return to Phoenix. The crowds are amazing and always enthusiastic and the 16th hole is pretty unique in golf.'

On Torrey Pines, he said: “It's a very important place to me. My pop took me there when I was younger and I have a lot of special memories of watching the Tour play there when I was growing up.”

Woods had an injury-plagued 2014 season which saw him undergo back surgery, miss the US PGA cut, fail to qualify for the FedEx Cup play-offs, get overlooked for the US Ryder Cup team and then finish joint last in the Hero World Challenge, the annual December Invitational he hosts every year.

To make his 2014 season even more traumatic, he once more parted ways with his swing coach, in this case Sean Foley, to engage a new one, Chris Como, in November.

The big question now is this: At 38 is the injury-plagued Woods able to come back and win any more tournaments, let alone any of the four majors he needs to match Jack Nicklaus’s record of 18?
