Player Profile - Scott Stallings

On Sunday America's Scott Stallings won his third PGA Tour title at the Farmers Insurance Open. In this week's player profile we'll learn some more about this impressive young player who has become a regular winner on the Tour.

Early Years - From Massachusetts to Tennessee

28-year-old Stallings was born in Worcester, Massachusetts but moved with his family to Knoxville, Tennessee, where he attended high school. By the time he was a teenager, Stallings had developed a love of golf that would later blossom into a successful amateur career as he sharpened his skills on the course.

Stallings enjoyed a successful career on the amateur circuit during his years at Tennessee Tech. He was named an All American in 2006, having won seven amateur tournament titles. Stallings was Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year in two successive seasons.

Making it on the professional circuit

In 2008, 23-year-old Stallings turned professional. His first taste of pro golf was on the Tarheel Tour and  NGA Hooters Tour, where he competed successfully until joining the Nationwide Tour in 2009. Stallings had intended to qualify for the PGA Tour that season, but a one-point shortfall forced him to leave that opportunity for the following season.

In 2011, during his second season on the PGA Tour, Stallings won his first title at the Greenbrier Classic. After finding his feet in 2010, the American improved his game significantly in the 2011 and 2012 seasons - his second win came at the 2012 True South Classic.

A calm but focused demeanour

Stallings is not one to make heavy weather out of a bad round, and has become known for his easy-going attitude and cool head. A dedicated Christian, he firmly believes that his faith has a great deal to do with his success on the course.

With three Tour victories under his belt at age 28, Stallings is approaching his thirties with the potential to become a household name in American golf.
