Russell Henley

The American Russell Henley made a successful debut on the US PGA Tour this season when he won his first-ever Tour event, the Sony Open in Hawaii. As this talented young golfer makes his mark on the PGA Tour, this week's player profile introduces golf fans to an exciting new member of the Tour family.

23-year-old Russell Henley was born in 1989, in Macon, Georgia. Growing up in Georgia, home to the US Masters and a state where golf reigns supreme as the leisure activity of choice, Henley had many opportunities to develop a love for the game. When it became clear that Henley's talent for golf had professional potential, he enrolled at the University of Georgia where he enjoyed a successful collegiate golf career.

In 2010 Henley received the Haskins Award – a prize for the most outstanding collegiate golfer of the season. He also took part in the 2010 US Open, and won two Nationwide Tour events – the Stadion Athens Classic in Georgia, and the Children's Hospital Invitational. Continued success in 2011 on the Web.com Tour saw Henley victorious at the 2011 Soboba Golf Classic and the 2012 Chiquita Classic. Henley earned his PGA Tour card for the 2013 season following these victories.

Many young golfers struggle to weather the challenges of the PGA Tour in their rookie year, but Henley showed no signs of nervousness when he took on the course in Hawaii to win the season-opening Sony Open on January 13th. Sailing through the course with multiple birdies and showing no visible signs of stress, Henley secured his first victory on the PGA Tour with the ease of a seasoned professional. As this talented player makes his name on the PGA Tour, he is bound to provide golf fans with many more exciting performances.
