Player Profile: The Race to Dubai - Too Close to Call?

The 2014 Race to Dubai, the European Tour's season-long competition to crown the top player in Continental golf, is drawing to a close in the next few weeks – but with several surprise victories on the Tour of late, picking a likely winner is proving difficult.

A number of exceptional players have made their mark on the Tour this season, with victories at challenging events which have placed them in contention to seize the number one spot on tour – here are some players to watch closely as the Race to Dubai turns its final corner.

Rory McIlroy

Leading the Race to Dubai is Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy. The 25-year-old has won five events this season and was crowned World Number One just a few months ago, making him a favourite to top the money list this season – but he has stiff competition.

Jamie Donaldson

He may be ranked 24th in the world against McIlroy's number one, but the Welshman Jamie Donaldson is hot on the Race to Dubai leader's heels. Having won two of his four career titles on the European Tour this season, Donaldson certainly means business.

Sergio Garcia

With twelve European Tour victories to his name, Sergio Garcia is no stranger to the Race to Dubai. The 34-year-old Spaniard won two events on the Tour this season and is currently ranked number three in the world.

Marcel Siem

Germany's Marcel Siem is the wildcard in this year's Race to Dubai, having weathered an intense playoff to win the BMW Masters last week. Although his 70th place in the world rankings may not count in his favour, a last-minute winning streak could propel the four-time European Tour winner to the top of the Race.

Justin Rose

Last but not least, Britain's Justin Rose is currently ranked fifth in the Race to Dubai. The 34-year-old enjoyed a successful 2014 season on the European Tour, with two of his eight career wins having been won this year. Rose remains a golfer to watch as the Race to Dubai nears its end.
