On the US PGA Tour, Jimmy Walker topped an American-dominated leader board to win the Sony Open in Hawaii on Sunday.

The final round was hotly contested, with several golfers sharing the lead over the tournament's closing 18 holes. Walker faced competition from compatriots Chris Kirk, Jerry Kelly, and Harris English, with the Australian Marc Leishman close behind.

Despite the final round pressure, long-hitting Walker set his eyes on the trophy as he treated fans to a display of precision golf and birdie-making throughout the day on Sunday. The American carded birdies at the 13th, 15th, 16th, and 17th holes to win by a margin of one stroke, with overnight leader Kirk in second place. Fellow-American Kelly took third place.

Walker is now a two-time champion in the PGA Tour, having won the Frys.com Open last October. The American is famous for playing over 180 tournaments before his first win, but his performance on Sunday is proof of his commitment to win regularly on the Tour.

The European Tour resumed its 2014 season last week, with South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen retaining his title at the Volvo Golf Champions.

The former British Open Champion faced off against fellow-South African Branden Grace on home soil, thrilling the local crowd.  Oosthuizen finished behind Grace, who's birdie at the eighteenth raised the possibility of a playoff. However, the defending champion carded a four-under-par 68 to clinch the title by a single stroke. Joost Luiten and Tommy Fleetwood were a further stroke behind, tied for third place.

Grace and Oosthuizen kept each other in check throughout the final round, which presented a special challenge due to windy weather conditions that affected ball flight on Sunday. Grace, who won the tournament in 2012, congratulated Oosthuizen on a job well done. The champion, in turn, recognised Grace's excellent performance.
