The Alfred Dunhill Championship: Branden Grace strikes at Leopard Creek
South African player, Branden Grace, has charged to the forefront of international golfing once again, with a decisive victory in the Alfred Dunhill Championship last week.
Grace ended on a 20-under par 268 for the event, seven shots ahead of countryman Louis Oosthuizen.
Despite winning all four of his titles during 2012, Grace has struggled to stay in the prizes lately, but started the day with a one-shot lead over Lucas Bjerregaard.
Grace answered Bjerregaard’s bogey on the first with a birdie on the second, and began to surge ahead, while Bjerregaard faded to end on a 17-over-par 89 for the day.
All eyes were on Danny Willet for a repeat of his Nedbank Challenge victory of last weekend, but a double-bogey on the 16th saw the Brit drop out of contention.
A one-shot victory for Lee Westwood at the Thailand Golf Championship
Previous world number 1, Lee Westwood, now ranked 43rd, claimed his 42nd career title this weekend in Thailand.
Beginning the day, in third, two shots behind the leader Marcus Fraser, Westwood achieved seven birdies to end on a 5-under-par 67, while Fraser returned a 70 to finish second with Martin Kaymer.
The Englishman also claimed the inaugural Thailand tournament in 2011 and this year won the Malaysian Open by seven shots.
"There's nothing like finishing a year strongly to give you a bit of momentum for the next year," says Westwood, who is no stranger to victory on this turf, having won the inaugural Thailand tournament in 2011.
Greg Chalmers wins longest play-off in a top-tier Australian tournament for victory in the Australian PGA
As regulation play ended at this year’s Australian Open, held at the Royal Pines Resort on Queensland's Gold Coast, three golfers - Greg Chalmers, Adam Scott and Wade Ormsby had all carded 11-under par 277.
What ensued was an epic sudden death play-off at the eighteenth, which locked the trio into four rounds before Ormsby bowed out with a par – to two birdies.
Three rounds later, Adam Scott bogeyed on the putting green, leaving the door wide open for Greg Chalmers to claim the title. This he did, with a confidently played tap-in for par birdie, which secured his 10th professional title.
This is Chalmers’ second Australian PGA title and also the second time he has won it off a three-way playoff. The first was in 2011.
