On the US PGA Tour, Australia’s Adam Scott held his own against four determined rivals to win The Barclay’s tournament on Sunday.

Scott finished the final round early with a five-under-par 66 which brought his final score to 273, or 11-under-par. As the Australian kept himself warmed up on the practice tee, a battle for second place was underway on the course between Tiger Woods, Justin Rose, Graham DeLaet, and Gary Woodland.

Woods began the final round with victory on his mind, but a severe back spasm plagued the world number one on Sunday – despite collapsing in pain on the thirteenth hole, Woods weathered the storm and joined the quartet of players who finished just a stroke behind Scott after eighteen holes.

The Barclays is Scott’s second victory this season, following his win at the US Masters in April.

In Scotland, the Briton Tommy Fleetwood won his first European Tour title at the Johnny Walker Championship. Fleetwood’s victory was hard-earned, with an impressive birdie on the eighteenth hole that forced a playoff against local favourite Stephen Gallacher and Ricardo Gonzalez of Argentina. After edging his way into the three-way tie, Fleetwood kept his nerve and out-played his competitors at the first extra hole with another birdie to win.

The Johnny Walker was Fleetwood’s 50th start on the European Tour, making his maiden win at Gleneagles very significant. The Briton is sure to be in contention at future European Tour events.

In Women’s golf, the New Zealander Lydia Ko won her second LPGA Canadian Women’s Open on Sunday.

16-year-old Ko, who plays as an amateur due to her age but has a record of wins to rival many professionals, left France’s Karine Icher in the dust with a five-stroke victory on Sunday. The young champion how holds the record for first amateur to win two LPGA titles.
