On the US PGA Tour, Tiger Woods made a victorious start to the season when he won the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines – his first tournament of the year.

After fog and windy weather delayed the final round until Monday, Woods began the final round with a six-stroke lead. His performance in the first three rounds was reminiscent of the 1990's and 2000's when the 14-times major champion was unbeatable on the world golf circuit.

After extending his lead to eight strokes early on Monday, increasingly windy conditions on the course caused Woods to drop four strokes on the back nine. In spite of this setback, the former world number one finished four ahead of compatriot Brandt Snedeker to lift the trophy. Woods is now ranked number two in the world, and if he makes good on his commitment to win every tournament he contends this season he may find himself at the top of international golf once again.

The European Tour travelled to Doha last week, where the Qatar Masters was won by the Englishman Chris Wood.

In an exciting final round, Wood kept his cool and carded an eagle on the final hole to secure a victory over Spain's Sergio Garcia and South Africa's George Coetzee. The Englishman had been under pressure on the back nine and needed two birdies to win when he seized the opportunity and became just the second player after Retief Goosen to win the Qatar Masters with an eagle on the final hole.

For Wood, who won his first tournament last season, this victory may be seen as a turning point. The Englishman has often been criticized for failing to deliver when the pressure is on, but last week's victory proved to his fans and competitors alike that Chris Wood has the ability to win under pressure.
