On Sunday Australia’s Adam Scott won his first-ever major when he lifted the trophy at this year’s US Masters. As this talented and accomplished golfer takes his career to new heights, this week’s player profile looks at a few highlights of his successful career to date.
32-year-old Scott was born in Adelaide, Australia and grew up on the gold coast near Queensland. His love of golf was fostered from a young age, and by the time he enrolled at the University of Nevada the young Scott was rearing to go. Turning professional at twenty, the young Scott soon made his mark on professional golf when he won his first European Tour tournament, the 2001 Alfred Dunhill Championship, in his second professional season.
Continuing his fine form on the European Tour in 2002, Scott recorded two victories that season – the Qatar Masters and the Scottish PGA Championship. Finishing the season ranked 7th on the order of merit at the age of 22, Scott began to attract the golfing community’s attention as he established himself as a strong contender in European golf.
The 2003 and 2004 seasons saw Scott competing on both sides of the Atlantic with great success. He was victorious at the 2003 Scandinavian Masters, and carded several excellent finishes on the US PGA Tour. Scott won his first PGA Tour event at the 2005 Nissan Open, while in Europe he was victorious once again at the Johnny Walker Classic.
To date, Scott has won nine European Tour events, nine US PGA Tour events, and four events in Asia. On Sunday he weathered immense competition from none other than his friend Angel Cabrera to win his first major in a playoff at the US Masters, showing fans once again that his game has come of age. We should all keep an eye on this talented player as he carves himself a distinguished career in international golf.
